    Your Dog & Cat

UVHS’s integrated program is built on four cornerstones: Enhanced Animal Care; Comprehensive Medical Care; Progressive Behavior and Training Programs; and Beneficial Matching and Adoption Processes. Together, these cornerstones offer better quality of life for UVHS’s animals, more success for families and their companion animals, and improved adoptability.

UVHS greatly appreciates donations of the items outlined below, all of which play a part in providing the best opportunity for families and pets to lead happy and healthy lives together.

***GIFT CARDS HELP THE MOST! See below for additional detail.

    Enhanced and Enriching Care Environment
Animals that are mentally and physically stimulated, comforted, and comfortable are happier and less stressed, making them more likely to be adopted. Feeding a consistent, high-quality diet and ensuring that each animal has a comfortable environment are key to an animal’s wellbeing and success.

    Comprehensive Medical Care
Continuous and consistent medical care helps ensure better and faster adoptions of healthier and happier animals. In addition to providing routine medical treatment, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering to homeless pets, UVHS thoroughly cleans and disinfects every day to help prevent the spread of disease.

    Progressive Behavior and Training Programs
UVHS’s positive reinforcement training resources for shelter dogs and the general public address the #1 reason for dog surrender: behavior issues. While UVHS provides extensive behavior services and support for community members, you can help support UVHS’s behavior work for the homeless animals in our care with:

    Training Aids Toys
Baby Food (chicken or turkey) Nylabones (medium and large; not chewable)
Hot Dogs (chicken or turkey) Stuffed Animals (no beads or beans)
    String Cheese Buster Cubes
    Hamburger Catnip Toys

D.A.P. – Dog Appeasing Pheromone (pump spray bottle)
Feliway – Cat Pheromone (spray, plug-ins, or wipes)

***Please note that what helps homeless pets the most are GIFT CARDS! Gift cards to local grocers, office and building supply stores, and other retailers allow UVHS to purchase the items homeless pets need most when they need them.
